Concept
Elastomeric bearing pad considered and approved by bridge committee in year 1987. Elastomeric bearings are also known as bridge bearing consist of one of more internal layers of elastomers bonded to internal steel laminates and caters for rotation of superstructure by elastic deformation and also restrain lateral expansion.
Scope
Elastomeric bridge bearing pad are used in bridges, flyovers by the construction companies. The bridge bearing caters of elastic deformation and also restrain lateral expansion due to horizontal and vertical loads on bridges or flyovers.
Construction
Chloroprene (CR) only shall be used in the manufacture of bearing. Elastomeric bearing consist of one or more internal elastomer layer. The layer of reinforcing material is integrally bonded to elastomer during vulcanization. Synthetic rubber like materials capable of being used in bridge bearings enjoy limited use in various part of the world.
Structure
1. The internal layers of elastomer are of equal thickness having elastomer cover on top. Bottom and entire bearing is vulcanized as a single homogeneous block.

2. The top and bottom elastomer surface directly bears on the structure faces and any displacement of bearing is safe-guarded by only interface friction without any aid of adhesive or other external anchoring

3. No dowel holes in elastomer and laminates are provided including those filled in subsequently

4. The minimum adhersion strength of elastomer to steel plate is 7 KN/m.
